I am so happy to finally post this finished painting. At 24 x 36 inches it's the largest watercolor I have ever attempted. It took some research to even find paper large enough for the project.
The commission started with a dinner overlooking the Tres Palmas Marine Reserve during the golden hour before sunset. The sight had so impressed my clients family, that upon arriving back home they could not shake it.
Having bought some of my postcards they approached me with the project, shocking me with the proposed dimensions. I am so glad they asked me to push my limits.
I spent the next month working tirelessly on the painting. The size allowed me to work in unprecedented detail on such a wide angle view. When the painting was finally being packed up for shipping it felt like a family member was leaving. Thanks to 36 letter-sized scans that I pieced together I have this image to share with you today.
For many reasons the title "Protectors of Tres Palmas" stuck. I hope this precious piece of land will remain as a responsibly managed pasture for a long time to come. The sight of these fields and its happy, sociable livestock is and remains a tonic for the soul.
