I keep creating paintings in Culebra. The trip was just so magical and this watercolor sketch of Flamenco beach is probably the best landscape I have done to date (10/2022).
As a kid I fantasized about being the Illustrator sent along with Charles Darwin or Alexander Humboldt on their voyages. I dreamed of being on a lonely beach in the Caribbean tasked with recording a strange and fantastic place and all it's species. I spent hours in the library and poured endlessly over illustrations made in the field. When I sat down in my folding chair on Flamenco beach, void of tourists and without any boats anchored in the bay, I felt my dream had become reality. I cherished every second, sweat beading up on my forehead in the sun. What a glorious day!
